Position Summary

The VP of Credit Administration is responsible for sound credit procedures and credit decisions through evaluation of financial information, monitoring of loans with substandard credit and loan covenants. Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, this position oversees the credit administration function and serves as a member of Association Loan Committees.

Essential Functions

  • Loan Committee Participation (25%)
    • Reviews, approves, modifies, or denies credit actions on large and complex credit requests and criticized loans as part of the Association Loan Committee
    • Ensures the loan structure and conditions are consistent with Association standards and requirements
    • Serves as a voting member of the Association’s Loan Committee
  • Credit Administration (25%)
    • Serves as subject matter expert, leading development of credit and underwriting policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Monitors Association compliance with credit related regulatory requirements by participating in the loan committee and approval process; regularly monitors FCA regulations to maintain compliance.
    • Updates and maintains the Association’s credit administration manuals.
    • Determines when added risk is levied in certain industries and helps the Association assess what steps to take to help mitigate risk.
    • Provides guidance to staff and assists in developing loan servicing plans for at risk credit.
    • Creates a corrective action plan to remediate findings related to credit actions.
  • Association Portfolio Management (20%)
    • Completes post close reviews on loan modifications and insider loans.
    • Coordinates with team leaders to provide training on errors found during reviews and developing corrective action plans.
    • Develops Board and Management reports as needed.
    • Liaison for external and internal credit reviews and examinations with responsibility for remediation of findings in conjunction with Chief Credit Officer.
  • Association Leadership (20%)
    • Develops and delivers credit training to appropriate staff.
    • Ensures staff are up to date with credit philosophies, procedures, and policies by providing guidance and direction.
    • Assesses credit processes and recommends improvements.
    • Ensures standardization between branch credit staff.
    • Promotes and influences Association’s collaborative culture.
  • Relationships (10%)
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with lending team and capital markets teams.
    • Works to assess and improve the relationship between the field and the credit function to enhance the customer experience when obtaining a loan or loan servicing action.
    • Develops a network of both external and internal relationships which enhances the Association’s image as well as creates avenues for learning and personal development.
    • Establishes and grows relationships with personnel throughout the Association.
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with lending and capital markets teams.
  • Data Security and Confidentiality
    • Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association’s systems and data and clients’ data.
  • Commitment and Support of Association Mission
    • Understands, applies, and supports the Association mission and vision statement in a positive, professional manner at work and with customers in all settings.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expert knowledge in business development, credit extension, credit administration, and portfolio management procedures
  • Expert knowledge in credit analysis and regulatory requirements with respect to borrower’s rights
  • Expert knowledge in credit risk classifications
  • Expert knowledge in legal documentation
  • Expert knowledge of loan documentation
  • Working knowledge of Association policies and procedures
  • Skill in differentiating significant and insignificant details
  • Skill in analyzing complex technical data by using logic and quantitative reasoning
  • Working knowledge of accounting, finance, and agricultural finance
  • Ability to communicate complicated information, delivering bad news, and negotiating complex agreements effectively to achieve the best outcome for the Association
  • Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional, respectful manner
  • Skill in utilizing time in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ability to identify and organize resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads, optimize efficiency, and ensure achievement of Association goals
  • Skill in utilizing various software applications to increase efficiency and/or effectiveness
  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and to effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Ag Business, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Master's Degree in Accounting, Agriculture, or Business is preferred.
  • Experience: 10 years of experience in credit training, administration, lending, finance, or other related field.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: typing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. May need to move materials weighing up to 10 pounds. May need to carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects while completing essential functions. This position is comprised of sedentary work which involves sitting at a computer a majority of the workday; may need to move throughout the building occasionally. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures,viewing a computer screen, and/or reading extensively.

Working Conditions

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. This position requires approximately 10% travel time with occasional overnight travel.
