Position Summary
Under direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the VP, Controller is responsible for issues affecting the Association’s long range financial soundness as well as day-to-day financial activities. The position is responsible for asset liability management and loan pricing (ALCO), short and long range financial planning, financial records and reporting, the budgeting process, formulation of internal controls, audit request, and all accounting functions. Provides information and analysis, primarily financial in nature, which assists in sound economic business decision making.
Essential Functions
- Directs the Day-To-Day Operations of the Finance Department (50%)
- Set and execute operating priorities and allocate resources, resulting in a high level of finance and accounting service quality.
- Provide high quality business services (pricing, accounting, reporting, taxes, etc) to internal and external customers. Provide insightful management reporting and recommendations to support effective business decision making such as advanced business analysis, cost allocations, and efficiency measurements. Also managing fixed assets and facilities investments. This also includes HR system support and incentive calculations.
- Ensure timely, accurate financial and tax accounting, internal and external reporting. This includes preparation of final budget package, for approval by the CFO, on an annual basis as well as an ongoing analysis of the budget compared to actual results. This also includes the management of internal profitability analysis and reports.
- Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate internal controls and policies for Finance and Accounting.
- Provides oversight of the Association ICFR program and coordinates activities with business owners, internal auditor and external auditors. Works closely with CFO and may present appropriate information to management and the audit committee.
- Prepare patronage scenarios and resolution for Board approval. Calculates patronage payment by customer/borrower and coordinates check generation. Completes patronage reports for staff and auditors.
- Coordinates the financial audit process, timing, and scope while following guidance from regulatory banks. Provides documentation and responds to questions from auditors and reviewers.
- Financial Management (30%)
- Manage the financial business plan for the Association.
- Manage the budgeting and business analysis function for the Association.
- Manage the Association asset liability process and participate in the Association’s ALCO committee.
- Financial Leadership (20%)
- Provide leadership,leadership and direction to the organization, particularly in the areas of finance and accounting.
- Participate with senior leadership in formulating direction, strategies and objectives relative to financial and accounting operation.
- Selects, trains, develops, motivates, sets performance standards, and evaluates staff within the department.
- Continually communicates and reinforces expectations, Association updates, and business goals to staff members.
- Determines work assignments, standard processes, and resource allocation to optimize staff efficiency.
- Data Security and Confidentiality
- Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association’s systems and data and clients’ data.

- Understands, applies, and supports the Association mission and vision statement in a positive, professional manner at work and with customers in all settings.
Knowledge & Skills
- Expert Knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and systems and tax regulations.
- Ability to interpret FASB, GAAP, IRS and FCA regulations and reporting requirements, as well as other Federal, State and local laws, and implement practices to ensure appropriate compliance.
- Strong administration, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Adept in analyzing information and problem solving to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
- Proficient in posting, editing, tracking, organizing, and reviewing data/documents with precision and accuracy.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt to evolving financial technologies and leverage digital tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.
- Proficient in ERP systems, financial reporting software, and data visualization platforms.
- Comfortable evaluating and implementing new technologies to streamline processes and support strategic initiatives.
- Advanced knowledge of accounts payable and loan/lease accounting processes and financial statements.
- Knowledge of SOX/ICFR accounting principles, controls, and requirements.
- Knowledge of business and management principles in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, auditing principles and methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Skill in identifying and organizing resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads, optimize efficiency, and ensure achievement of Association goals.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to create and edit data and communications.
- Must be able to converse and communicate with customers using the English language.
- Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional, respectful manner.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field
Experience: 6 years of progressively more responsible finance and accounting experience, 3 years of supervisory experience preferred
Certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant preferred
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
Physical Demands
Positions in this class typically require: keying, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met. Working Conditions
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. This position requires approximately 5% travel time.
