Position Summary
The Director of Accounting will lead the strategic and operational functions of the loan accounting team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals. This individual will be responsible for overseeing loan accounting operations, managing financial reporting related to loan portfolios, and implementing policies and systems that drive efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Essential Functions
- Staff Leadership and Management (30%)
- Selects, trains, leads motivates, mentors, sets performance standards, and evaluates staff within the loan accounting team to ensure professional growth and high performance.
- Prioritize succession planning based on individual aptitude and career goals, and provide leadership training opportunities as appropriate.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Lending, Risk, Loan Documentation, Finance, and Compliance) to align goals and initiatives.
- Loan Accounting Operations (40%)
- Oversee and assign the following loan accounting functions and tasks:
- Answer loan accounting-related phone calls and walk-in customers’ requests and questions.
- Update and maintain the Loan Accounting Queue.
- Prepare, review, and verify loan disbursements, payments, rate changes, bill records, etc.
- Complete various loan servicing processes on both participated and traditional loans including loan modifications, rate changes, renewals, and various loan maintenance tasks.
- Enter wires, ACH, and internal transfers in online banking for approval.
- Verify information for check requests.
- Verify daily settlements of wires/ACH’s.
- Identify and research variances and make corrections.
- Reconcile bank and assigned general ledger accounts.
- Oversee and assign the following loan accounting functions and tasks:
- Department Processes and Procedures (15%)
- Review, evaluate and update department policies, processes and procedures to maximize efficiency.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial integrity.
- Evaluate, implement and encourage customer use of software platforms that create additional efficiency within the department (e.g. online banking, Positive Pay, mobile check deposit, remote deposit capture, etc.)
- Compliance and Audit (10%)
- Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements, including banking regulations and financial reporting standards.
- Act as a primary loan accounting point of contact for internal and external audits related to the department.
- Stay updated on evolving industry standards, regulations, and best practices, adapting processes accordingly.
- Strategic Contribution (5%)
- Provide strategic input to senior leadership as it relates to the Loan Accounting Department.
- Support partnerships or other business development by evaluating loan accounting implications.
- Data Security and Confidentiality
- Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association’s systems and data and clients’ data.

- Understands, applies, and supports the Association mission and vision statement in a positive, professional manner at work and with customers in all settings.
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of accounting theory, principles, controls, professional standards, and regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of accounts payable and loan/lease accounting processes and financial statements.
- Knowledge of business and management principles in resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, auditing principles and methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Ability to interpret, apply, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Effective communicator, with strong interpersonal skills, working collaboratively with both external and internal customers in a professional, respectful manner.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate team members at all levels to promote a collaborative and highly productive work environment.
- Skilled in identifying and organizing resources for yourself and team members in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads, optimize efficiency, and ensure achievement of Association goals.
- Strong attention to detail and skill in identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Proven ability to make sound decisions, work on multiple priorities simultaneously, adapt to a changing environment and manage deadlines.
- General knowledge of the agriculture and financial industry, and applied business mathematics and principles.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, computers, current applicable software (nCino, Lawson, NGS), and other office tools.
- Must be able to converse and communicate with customers using the English language.
- Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional, respectful manner.
- Advanced skill in analyzing information and problem solving to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
- Skill in posting, editing, tracking, organizing, and reviewing data/documents with precision and accuracy.
- Skill in identifying and organizing resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads, optimize efficiency, and ensure achievement of Association goals.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of experience in loan accounting, financial services, or banking. Proven leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional projects.
- Certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant preferred.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
Physical Demands
Positions in this class typically require: keying, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time. The employee must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribe data; understand information communicated via computer screens and in written text.
Working Conditions
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
